Another record year expected for Costa del Sol tourism

Tourism into the Costa del Sol and Malaga airport this year is expected to achieve another record year. This wonderful southern coast of Spain has long been popular with UK tour operators now looking to increase their market share here amid customers fears of safety in other popular destinations. More than that though, Spain has a great infrastructure for accepting tourism and it seems the world likes it.
Growth
The Sur reported that flight schedules are an excellent indicator of measuring tourism and the airlines operating in and out of Malaga have scheduled 15.5 million seats for this year until October – two million more than last year in fact.
There are a massive 242 routes in/out of Malaga and as such an international transport hub it really is the gateway to the Costa del Sol. From here you can fly to 126 destinations worldwide and of course to several throughout Spain. In 2015 the airport saw 13.7 million passengers whilst last year that increased 16.6 million showing real growth.
Why is it so popular?
We could wax lyrical about the Costa del Sol, but year-round sunshine, beaches galore, a relaxed lifestyle and plenty to do seems to cover how we feel about it overall. Golfers are so well catered for that even after coming for years they are still happy to play on the many award winning and challenging courses available.
The cultured and arty city of Malaga itself is often overlooked as a place to visit but realistically you could lose yourself in museums and galleries, pavement cafes and quality restaurants. A visit to Museo Picasso Malaga and Carmen Thyssen Museum will quiet the mind after exploring the town centre with its great selection of designer and traditional shops. Alcazaba and Gibralfaro are remnants of Moorish rule and the Renaissance cathedral in the city attracts many visitors.
So why live here?
Well that is probably a silly question given the above. In our experience people choose the Costa del Sol as a place to live or as a place to buy a second home because it has some excellent facilities and amenities, so many fantastic properties for all budgets and of course the sunshine. Wherever you choose to buy on the Costa del Sol you can expect the luxury resorts such as Marbella and Puerto Banus to be within easy reach and of course Malaga airport is less than an hour away from many resorts making for easy transfers. More than that, those increasing tourism numbers mean that you’re likely to get a good ROI if you buy an investment property here. There are some truly stunning properties available and ‘A Place in the Sun’ was recently filming an episode for their next series.
Our love of the Costa del Sol and its resorts will never stop and as those tourism numbers creep up year on year even more people are appreciating what is has to offer.
