The area known collectively as Marbella West extends from Puerto Banús and Nueva Andalucía towards the coastal town of Estepona. Just west of Nueva Andalucía lies the lively little town of San Pedro, which still retains a very Spanish atmosphere. As a result, its shops, cafés and tapas bars form a popular point of reference for foreign residents living in the stylish residential areas surrounding this little town.
The coastal area extending from Puerto Banús past San Pedro is highly popular among owners of second homes, as its luxury apartment complexes and secluded villas and townhouses offer tranquillity combined with a beachside location that is also very central. In this area golf courses, tennis clubs and beach clubs are never far away, and as you move further west you come to the exclusive Guadalmina area.
Guadalmina is divided into a seaside part (Guadalmina Baja) and a ‘mountain side’ (Guadalmina Alta). Both are dissected by the lush greenery of golf courses, and both are dominated by private villas with a scattering of luxury apartment complexes. Where Upper Guadalmina enjoys lovely mountain scenery and wonderful sea views from elevated positions, Lower Guadalmina has the advantage of a seaside location close to beach clubs, chiringuito beach bars and a links golf course that almost touches the sandy shore in places.
Though Guadalmina Alta is a leafy, exclusive area in its own right, Guadalmina Baja ranks among the finest addresses in the Marbella area, close to everything yet characterised by beautiful villas on large private estates.
