Spain’s famous cycling event La Vuelta a España to start in Marbella this Year

The cycling event will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year and even more exciting, the historic town of Marbella has been given the honour of firing the starting gun on this auspicious occasion.

The cycling event is scheduled to set off from Puerto Banus on 22nd August and will continue until the 13th September. The participants will cycle through mountains, hills, and the countryside and will compete to reach the finish line to bag the prize money expected to be over 100,000€.

La Vuelta or Tour of Spain is one of the three grand cycling competitions in Europe, along with Tour de France and Tour of Italy. More than 200 cyclists from 20 teams are expected to take part in this arduous cycling event this year. The race is broken down into different stages and cyclists must complete all the stages in 23 days, including two rest days. The participant who reaches the finish line in the shortest time will be considered the winner. The event organizers have also decided to reward winners in all 21 stages.

The very first La Vuelta took place in 1935 but it wasn’t until after the World War II that it gained immense popularity and prestige internationally.
