Escape to the Costa del ‘Golf’ for the winter

Missing the greens?

Dark nights, dreary weather.

If you live in the northern hemisphere, there’s not much chance of teeing off at this time of year. For most people, the autumn-winter months mark the end of ‘golf season’ – forcing even the most avid players to pack away their clubs and wait (not so patiently) until the weather improves.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

In the Costa del Sol, it’s always golfing season.

Thanks to the warm and sunny climate, golfers can enjoy their hobby all year round.

Affectionately dubbed the ‘Costa del Golf’, it’s home to the highest concentration of golf courses in Europe – most of which are open 365 days a year. And with an abundance of frontline golf properties set amongst the beautiful Andalusian landscape, it’s the perfect autumn-winter retreat.

If you’re eager to get back on the links, book those tickets and join us in ‘golfer’s paradise’.

5 of the best Costa del Sol golf courses

Currently, there are over 70 stunning golf courses in the Costa del Sol – many of which are located in the tourist hotspot of Marbella. These include both value pay-and-plays and exclusive ‘member only’ fairways, with something to suit all handicaps and preferences.

Here are just a few of our favourites.

1. El Paraiso

Course length: 6131m (18 holes, 71 pars)

Difficulty: Easy

Green fee: 80€ – 130€, depending on the season

El Paraiso in the Costa del 'Golf'

Designed by the legendary Gary Player, El Paraiso Golf is set in a beautiful valley in Estepona – surrounded by magnificent views of La Concha Mountain and the Mediterranean Sea.

Described as the ‘friendliest club on the coast’, it’s ideal for all ability levels.

The 18-hole course runs down a natural gradient towards the sea, with wide fairways and testing (albeit beautiful) water hazards along the way. Tee off under the warm winter sun, and whatever your handicap, the layout of this challenging yet entertaining round will ensure you enjoy every shot

2. Real Club de Golf Las Brisas

Course length: 6203m (18 holes, 71 pars)

Difficulty: Medium

Green fee: 300€

One of the best golf courses in the Costa del Sol

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is recognised as one of the best golf courses in the Costa del Sol.

In fact, it’s ranked #6 in Spain’s top 100, and #24 in Continental Europe’s top 100. And it’s held numerous regional and international competitions – including the World Golf Championship, twice.

Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968, the course landscape is truly breathtaking – taking players on a journey through botanical gardens, with flora and fauna from all over the world. And each hole gradually increases in difficulty, requiring focus and concentration.

Perfect for those who appreciate an exceptional golf experience in a relaxing environment.

3. Aloha Golf Club

Course length: 6392m (18 holes, 72 pars)

Difficulty: Medium

Green fee: Shareholders and members only

Golf club in Marbella

One of the most prestigious golf clubs in Marbella.

Located in the Golf Valley and designed by Javier Arana, Aloha has a unique landscape that resembles a picturesque English park. Low hills and open green spaces are combined with water obstacles and hedges, to create a rich and fascinating game that requires accuracy from the tee.

This 18-hole course is a private ‘members only’ club. Which means, to play, you’ll need to purchase a share and make an official application for membership rights – and the fees certainly fall at the higher end of the scale. But for serious golfers, it’s a small price to pay for its beauty and exclusivity.

4. Los Naranjos Golf Club

Course length: 6116m (9 and 18-hole options)

Difficulty: Medium

Green fee: 89€ – 127€, depending on the season

Los Naranjos belongs to a select group of golf courses in Marbella, designed by the world-famous golf architect – Robert Trent Jones Sr. And since it was founded in 1977, it’s played an important role in the triumphs of many professional players and has hosted several international championships.

Little surprise then, that the course has been ranked #19 in the top 100 in Southern Spain.

Situated near Puerto Banús, it’s famous for its wide fairways – with strategically designed obstacles, bright emerald laws and mountain views – as well as its relaxed, social atmosphere. Bring your ‘A’ game on this spectacular round, and round off the day with great food at the restaurant.

5. La Quinta Golf

Course length: 5602m (27 holes, 71 pars)

Difficulty: Varied

Green fee: 90€
