How to do Halloween in Malaga (Costa del Sol)

If you have already bought property in Marbella or on the Costa del Sol or you’re a regular visitor to the region, you may have noticed that Halloween is a big deal in Spain. The Spaniards love of a good party is legendary and Halloween is no exception. The celebrations last for 3 days, starting with the ‘Dia de las Brujas’ (Day of the Witches) on the 31st of October, followed by ‘Dia de Todos los Santos’ (All Saints Day) and ends with ‘Dia de los Muertos’ on the 2nd of November.

Unlike celebrations in the US and UK where it is a much more commercial affair with trick or treat, in Spain as many of the Spanish speaking world, the celebration is more spiritual particularly the ‘Dia de Todos los Santos’ which is a public holiday when families tend to visit the graves of loved ones. After which they will toast the deceased with drink, food and a good knees-up.

Don’t worry if you’re looking forward to the UK and American style Halloween with ‘candies’, ‘jack o’lanterns’ and ‘trick or treat’ as these type of activities are slowly gaining ground due the international community on the Costa del Sol. There is also the opportunity to enjoy a typically Spanish celebration.  Here are a few of the ghoulish events taking place on Halloween this year on the Costa del Sol.
