4 of the top European golf courses in Spain’s Costa del Sol

Spain has long been in the hearts of golfers from around the world. The fabulous climate and the even more stunning courses bring golfers to the Costa del Sol year-round. It is no surprise to know that 4 of the top 100 European golf courses are in the Costa del Sol and each of these highly ranked and well-known courses fall into the top 25.

Real Valderrama
Most seasoned golfers will know the Valderrama as it has had plenty of TV coverage. The club has hosted a plethora of championships including the 1997 Ryder Cup. In 2014 the club was granted Royal status. It comes in 4th in Europe.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande
Designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1964, this golf club is 20km from Gibraltar. It was his first European course and this par72, 6224 metre beautiful course is still enthralling and challenging players 50 years after it first opened. It comes in 9th in Europe.

Finca Cortesin
Ranked 18th in Europe, Finca Cortesin is set in a valley near Estepona and is almost one of Euopes longest courses at 7000 metres. Cabell Robinson designed the course and it features a ‘Jack Nicklaus Academy’ for those looking to improve their game.

Real Las Brisas
At 24th in Europe, Real Las Brisas is another one of Robert Trent Jones’ babies. Opened in 1968 it was one of the first courses to use bent grass. Nick Faldo won the 1987 Spanish Open on this course.
