Can I still buy property in Marbella post-Brexit?

UK nationals are now only entitled to stay in Spain for 90 days, in any given 180 day period. Which means, unfortunately, buying real estate in Marbella isn’t as straightforward as it used to be – but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

A Spanish Golden Visa can be issued to any non-EU national who intends to make a significant investment into Marbella property (worth at least €500,000). This entitles you to live and work in Spain and grants access to a range of public services – therefore offering Brits a way to overcome the obstacles created by Brexit and permanently relocate to their dream property in the Costa del Sol.

I could never thank enough Emma at Bromley Estates Marbella and the team at the office for having found me the perfect place in Spain. After having made an enquiry through rightmove.co.uk. I received a reply by email (personalised, NOT computer generated) signed by Jay advising me that a member of staff would contacted me shortly to discuss my requirements. Soon after receiving the email the same Jay called me on my English mobile to discuss my requirements more in details . I was then advised that my file would be passed on her colleague by the name of Emma who would arrange for me to view properties that fit my requirements. I explained that I had a limited budget and that a garden had to be a must since I have two cats. The location would also have to be a priority as I don’t drive and the property had to be within walking distance to local shops and the beach. I really believed that I was asking the impossible, but when I received a call by a lady called Emma. Emma sounded friendly and approachable, but came across also as being very professional and extremely knowledgeable of the Spanish housing market and different areas on the Spanish coast. She was positive that she would have found me the right place and it was her confidence and optimism than I then started to think that perhaps the right place for me was out there. I explained to Emma that I am a single woman who does not drive and who needs a base in Spain– as opposed to a holiday place – and she suggested that area of Calahonda would be best for me as it is very well serviced by a bus route that goes into Marbella, Malaga and Fuengirola. As I am not at all familiar with the area, Emma dedicated the whole day for me showing me various properties and their relative shopping/restaurant areas. I would have expected this type of treatment for someone with at least five times my budget, but nonetheless I was treated with kid gloves throughout the whole day. Not only did Emma pick me up from my rented place (1 hour drive away from Bromley Estate Office), but I was even treated to a wonderful meal in a wonderful restaurant by the beach and a coffee in the port area of Cabopino. In just a few days she organised seven properties to be viewed on the same day confident that by the end of the day she would have found me the perfect place. And surely enough she did!!! A lovely, secure and elegant residence in Calahonda. Just the place I could have dreamed of on my budget. Nothing was too much trouble for Emma and all the staff at Bromley Estates. They were all highly professional, but approachable even for a buyer on a tight budget. I was made to feel special even when I walked into their plush offices in Marbella. Everybody knew me by name and their warmth made me feel at ease. Emma was present during the exchange of contracts with the vendor together with a representative lawyer of the Law firm they recommended. The sale went smoothly and I am more than pleased at the worked carried out by the law firm. Everybody spoke perfect English at their offices and I will definitely be using them again for personal tax issues. I am so happy in my new home and I can now say with certainty that should have gone with a different estate agent I doubt very much I would have found the perfect place.
