Can I still buy property in Marbella post-Brexit?

UK nationals are now only entitled to stay in Spain for 90 days, in any given 180 day period. Which means, unfortunately, buying real estate in Marbella isn’t as straightforward as it used to be – but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

A Spanish Golden Visa can be issued to any non-EU national who intends to make a significant investment into Marbella property (worth at least €500,000). This entitles you to live and work in Spain and grants access to a range of public services – therefore offering Brits a way to overcome the obstacles created by Brexit and permanently relocate to their dream property in the Costa del Sol.

Emma spent two days with us early Aug ’20 viewing properties in the Fuengirola to Marbella region. Having listened to our likes and dislikes from the first few viewings Emma quickly gained an understanding of which properties could be suitable candidates to satisfy our requirements. Having an extensive knowledge of properties on the market and not being tied to a particular agent, meant that the viewing schedule became very flexible and relevant. This was particularly important because we were also on vacation and didn’t want to waste our time looking at ill suited properties. On the second viewing day, the property viewings became much more relevant and we identified the property which ticked our boxes. Emma quickly understood the offer to propose and how to secure the deal with a deposit agreement. Toward the end of Oct ‘20 we completed on the property purchase and Emma was present at the signing in the notary office. This is where Emma came into her own.
