An apartment in Estepona – the perfect base for a summer holiday

Longing for a sunny holiday?

For anyone living in the UK, we’re not surprised.

According to the Met Office, it could be the coldest and wettest summer of the last 24 years, with as many as 50 rainy days predicted over the so-called summer months.

So…why not relocate to Spain? At least, temporarily.

If you’ve been thinking about investing in a second holiday home in the Costa del Sol, perhaps this is the final straw – the little push you’ve been waiting for to make the leap. Here at Bromley Estates Marbella, we’d be delighted to offer our assistance.

Facilities at our apartments for sale in Estepona

Earlier this year, we launched One80 Collection – a stylish boutique development of apartments in Estepona, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.

Once a sleepy fishing village, Estepona is still a charming and picturesque town at its heart. But over the last few years, it’s undergone significant development and is now home to all the ingredients for a perfect summer holiday in the Costa del Sol.

Think 320+ days of sunshine, stunning beaches, fabulous bars and restaurants, excellent shops, art and cultural sights, extensive leisure activities, family-friendly attractions and more.

Apartments for sale at One80 Collection are a peaceful haven, set in landscaped gardens away from the hustle and bustle. But they’re also an ideal base from which you can explore this beautiful town and everything it has to offer.

So why not take a look at our top suggestions, start planning your first holiday and get in touch to book a virtual viewing with our team of specialists?

8 things to do in Estepona

1. Wander the charming old town

Quintessentially Andalusian, it’s easy to spend a few hours strolling through the whitewashed houses and flower-filled alleyways of Estepona’s Centro Historico (Estepona Old Town).

Either wander at your own pace and get lost in the pretty streets. Or if you prefer, scan the QR code at the tourist office to get a pre-made map and follow their recommended route.

Not surprisingly for a historical centre, you’ll find plenty of relics to explore throughout Estepona’s old quarter – including the old fortress of Castillo de San Luis (which dates back to the 15th century and is well worth a visit) and the town clock at Plaza del Reloj.

To round off the day, visit one of the gorgeous cafes or restaurants in Plaza de las Flores.

2. Relax at Playa de la Rada (Rada Beach)

Estepona is a beach lover’s paradise.

One of the largest and most popular beaches is Playa de la Rada. Located just a short walk from the town centre, this is a 2.6km stretch of golden sand – fringed by towering palm trees and traditional chiringuitos, where you can shelter from the sun and enjoy a cold beer.

It’s also the main beach to visit if you’d like to try water sports, with kayaking, jet skiing, windsurfing, and even scuba diving courses for beginners, all on offer.

Estepona Marina

3. Enjoy sundowners at the marina

Built on what was the original fishing harbour, Estepona’s stylish marina is now home to many sophisticated bars, and restaurants serving up some of the freshest seafood in town.

The atmosphere here is buzzing, particularly on an evening – with many waterfront bars staying open until the small hours of the morning. Making it a popular place with both locals and tourists, who wish to watch the sunset with a delicious cocktail in hand.

There’s also a popular market on a Sunday, selling everything from handicrafts to leather goods.

4. Go for a stroll along the promenade

Only recently completed, Paseo Maritimo de Estepona is a stunning promenade that runs the length of the town, allowing people to stroll from La Rada Beach all the way to the fishing port, along the scenic seafront.

It’s often at its busiest early evening, when people step out, take a seat and enjoy the beautiful views of golden hour. But if you do wish to walk the entire length, there are plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments along the way in the many bars and restaurants.

5. Tee off at a world-class golf course

Golfers are certainly very well served in Estepona.

Championship-level courses such as Real Club de Valderrama, Finca Cortesin, Estepona Golf, El Paraiso Golf, Valle Romano Golf and more can be found an easy drive away from most apartment complexes in the area – including our exclusive properties at One80 Collection.

All of these courses are set in beautiful landscapes with breathtaking views, and typically have a range of 5* onsite facilities for you to enjoy. A fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon.

6. Hike in a natural park

There’s more to Estepona than its beautiful coastline. It’s also backed by the Sierra Bermeja mountain range. An area of rugged natural beauty, here keen hikers can find a selection of trails – all of which have magnificent vistas towards the African coast and offer an opportunity to see some wonderful wildlife.

There’s something to suit all fitness levels. For families, the Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja is one of the most popular routes – an easy 3km loop that stays fairly flat through the fir forest. But for the more adventurous hikers, there’s also a 15km trail that takes around 9 hours to complete.

7. Visit Selwo Aventura Wildlife Park

Whisk the kids away to an African savannah without ever leaving Estepona.

Selwo Aventura is a sprawling 100-hectare safari park, located just a 15-minute drive away en route to Marbella. Home to over 2000 exotic animals – including white rhinos, Bengal tigers, zebras and giraffes, to name a few – it’s a great place to spend quality time as a family.

The park’s camouflaged trucks are a particularly fun way to explore.

Children can also enjoy trampolining and archery activities. Whilst for the thrill seekers, there’s a series of hanging bridges and the longest zip-line in Europe across the park’s lake.

8. Check out Ruto de los Murales Artísticos

Estepona’s Old Town may be renowned for its pristine white paintwork, but in the surrounding neighbourhoods, it’s a completely different picture. Here, many buildings are decorated with unique and colourful street art – and over the last few years, it’s gathered increasing interest.

Painted onto the side of apartment blocks and office buildings, at the last count, there were 23 murals dotted throughout Estepona – all the work of local artists, such as Ana Cecila Salinas.

You could try to find them all yourself, but they’re spread over quite a large area. So if you’re an art enthusiast eager to see the full range, it’s worth heading to the tourist office – where you can pick up a detailed map pinpointing the exact locale of each piece of work.
