Property in Marbella: East vs. West

Marbella is an amazing place to live, especially the Golden Mile. But it’s called the ‘golden’ mile for a reason. It’s home to some of the most luxurious and exclusive properties – not just in Spain, but in the whole of Europe. And those properties tend to fall at the top end of the price scale.

That’s why, for potential buyers with a more modest budget, we often recommend properties for sale outside of the city centre – particularly in Marbella East and Marbella West.

Marbella itself stretches across 40km of coastline and up into the foothills of the mountains. There are many different resorts to choose from in either direction. And in most cases, these resorts offer a chance to secure your ‘dream’ property in Marbella and get significantly more for your money.

The question is – do you go east or west?

At Bromley Estates, Marbella real estate is our specialist subject. To help you narrow down your search criteria, here our in-house experts compare and contrast these two popular regions and highlight some of the best areas in each.

Marbella East

Head east of the town centre and you’ll stumble across an abundance of charming resorts – stretching from the edge of central Marbella, all the way to the beautiful marina of Cabopino and its protected Artola Natural Beach Reserve.

Marbella East has become one of the most popular regions along the coast in recent years, known for its wonderful sandy beaches and elegant low-density residential zones.

Where should I buy property in Marbella East?

Each resort in this region of Marbella has a unique character and list of amenities. Ultimately, the right one for you will depend on the type of lifestyle you wish to lead, but here are our favourites:

  1. Elviria

Best for beauty and tranquillity

Elviria is home to the iconic beachside hotel – Hotel Don Carlos – and Nikki Beach Club, which becomes one of the coast’s main party hubs in the summer months. But this is just a small aspect of its character; primarily, it’s just a beautiful place to live, renowned for its stunning natural beauty.

Described as the ‘Jewel of Eastern Marbella’, homes here are surrounded by umbrella pine forests and luscious greenery. The views are spectacular, and the atmosphere is charming and tranquil.

If you’re looking for a peaceful haven in the Mediterranean sunshine, this could be the resort for you.

  1. Cabopino

Best for leisure activities

Cabopino is also renowned for being a naturally beautiful and picturesque place to live. But in addition, it has a lot to offer in terms of leisure – including the magnificent Marina Puerto Cabopino.

This may be smaller than the marina of Puerto Banús, but it’s packed full of delicious seafood restaurants, sophisticated bars, boutiques, chiringuitos, entertainment venues and more. You can try your hand at water sports, tee off at the 18-hole golf course, or take a stroll along the white sand beach. It’s up to you.

Cabopino has something for everyone. And as the resort is well-connected, with easy access to other popular coastal towns, it’s the ideal base for both families and retirees.

  1. Los Monteros

Best for exclusivity

This is an ideal area for those who’d like to enjoy the calming atmosphere of Marbella East, but wish to invest in a truly luxurious and impressive property. Los Monteros is one of the most prestigious urbanisations in the region, and it’s attracted the international jet set for many years now.

It has a peaceful beachside setting, with little passing traffic, and plenty of high-end bars and restaurants can be found nearby. It’s the perfect place to experience pure, indulgent relaxation.

Marbella West

Marbella West is a region that extends west from the famous ‘Golden Mile’, towards the border of Estepona.

Along the way, you’ll find a range of popular resorts that combine tranquillity, exclusivity, a convenient beachside location and a host of desirable facilities and amenities.

Luxury is a big buzzword here.

You can expect everything from 5* restaurants, elegant boutiques, and refined bars to indulgent spas, tennis clubs, lavish country clubs, world-renowned golf courses and more.

Properties for sale in Marbella West offer the best of both worlds. They’re quiet and secluded, offering families, couples and retirees a sunny oasis in which to sit back and truly relax. But follow the Benahavís road, and Marbella town – and all it has to offer – is just a stone’s throw away.

Where should I buy property in Marbella West?

Again, this depends on personal preference – including the type of property you’d like and the kind of lifestyle you’re looking to lead. Some of our top recommendations in Marbella West include:

  1. Puerto Banús

Best for luxury

Situated between Marbella centre and San Pedro Alcántara, Puerto Banús is world-renowned for its glitz and glamour. The famous harbour is lined with superyachts, sports cars, exclusive fashion boutiques, nightclubs, jewellers, cocktail bars, beach clubs, cafés and more. So, if you’re looking to rub shoulders with the rich and famous, it certainly won’t disappoint.

However, Puerto Banús isn’t just a hotspot for luxury and excitement. It’s also a beautiful place to live. Many of its suburbs retain a traditional Andalusian feel, and with the airport just 40 minutes away, it’s a fantastic base for a holiday home or family visits.

  1. Nueva Andalucía

Best for location

Nueva Andalucía is located very close to Puerto Banús – yet it’s much quieter.

Real estate here includes a wide range of traditional and modern homes. But whichever option you choose – despite being close to the action of the city – properties are peaceful and private. As a result, they’re in very high demand, and tend to be popular with the ‘silently rich and famous’.

This resort is also renowned for its prestigious golf clubs, including Aloha Golf, Las Brisas, La Quinta, Los Naranjos and more. So if you enjoy a round on the green, it could be your perfect paradise.

  1. San Pedro de Alcántara

Best for authenticity

Although it’s just a few kilometres away from Marbella and Puerto Banús, San Pedro is a lively little town that has managed to retain its Andalusian authenticity. Think quaint narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses. Traditional tapas bars, chiringuitos and cafés. And small, intriguing shops.

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a truly Spanish way of life, whilst still being in touching distance of central Marbella, this could be the ideal place for you to invest in a property.

Still not sure which Marbella region is for you?

It’s a big decision. Whether you’re planning to relocate to Spain permanently, want a home away from home for the summer months, or wish to invest in the perfect holiday rental, it’s important to determine which region or resort best suits your requirements, preferences, and budget.

Perhaps that’s Marbella East? Maybe it’s Marbella West? Or somewhere else along the coast?
