La Duquesa is made up of two main areas – Puerto de la Duquesa, which is the marina itself and the area immediately surrounding it, and Castillo de la Duquesa, which is a village close to the castle.

Is a property in La Duquesa right for me?

But whilst it may be within touching distance of these hotspots, it’s a thousand miles away in terms of its character.

At its heart, this is a low-key Mediterranean marina. A point along the coast where the traffic eases, the landscape becomes even more stunning, and residents can enjoy a truly authentic slow-paced Spanish way of life.

For most of the year, it’s an incredibly peaceful place to live. La Duquesa Port does become a little busier in July and August, thanks to its multitude of bars and restaurants and the natural influx of holidaymakers – but compared to nearby resorts, it’s still very tranquil and easy-going.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to see or do, though.

The marina itself is filled with delightful cafés and chiringuitos, creating the perfect spot for a long lunch in the sunshine. It’s also a haven for boating and water sport enthusiasts, with plenty of local companies offering the chance to enjoy sailing trips, fishing trips, jet ski hire, wakeboarding and more.

The area is also home to unspoiled natural scenery and beautiful countryside, ideal for exploring. You can also find historical sites, long sandy stretches of blue flag beaches, several local markets and an abundance of great golf courses – including the legendary La Duquesa Golf and Country Club.

An excellent quality of life is one of the Costa del Sol’s key attractions, and this is dazzlingly evident in La Duquesa. Combined with a relatively low cost of living, quick and easy access to international airports and a good infrastructure of day-to-day amenities (e.g. schools, supermarkets, medical centres), it’s little wonder that property in La Duquesa has become increasingly popular.

Admittedly, it may no longer be ‘the best kept secret’ or ‘hidden gem’ of Spain, but it’s still relatively unknown to most who drive past. How much does property for sale in La Duquesa cost?

There really is something here to suit all budgets. Yes, the biggest most luxurious villas and mansions – with a south orientation and 5+ en suite bedrooms – are regularly valued at €1-2 million or more. You do however get a lot more than you would for the same amount of money in Estepona, Sotogrande or Marbella.
