The Costa del Sol: Paradise for golfers and investors

The Costa del Sol in Southern Spain has always been a favourite holiday destination, especially for golfers. With an abundance of luxurious golf courses located next to the Mediterranean Sea, it offers not only a picturesque location and stunning sea views, but also pleasant year-round weather which means you can book several months in advance safe in the knowledge that you can guarantee almost perfect weather.

Golf properties and other properties on the Costa del Sol get lots of attention especially if they are close to the golf courses. Buying a property in Marbella or surrounding Costa del Sol on golf resorts or near, can offer an incredible holiday home investment. Golfing is so popular here and not just because of the weather.

These beautiful and challenging courses have attracted both amateur and professional golfers from all around the world. The East of Málaga is a desirable location with many golf courses being just a short car ride away from one of the busiest airports in the world, with hundreds of short flights arriving every single day from popular cities all across Europe and many of them offered at a low cost by several well-known airlines.

The golf courses of the Costa del Sol, colloquially known as ‘The Costa del Golf’ has a reputation for both luxury and professionalism with hosting international events such as the 1997 Ryder Cup hosted by Valderrama Golf Club and the World Golf Championships in Seville. The Women’s Open de España forms part of the European Women’s Professional Golf Circuit and in recent years has taken place at La Quinta Golf.

There are over 60 golf courses along the coast, many set up by ambitious local businessmen that have over the years become favourite golfing destinations for celebrities such as world-famous Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros, who would often vacation on the Costa del Sol during the height of his career from the 70s until the 90s. David Leadbetter, a British golfing instructor, has also enjoyed the outstanding courses that the Costa del Sol has to offer. They are a favourite to many golf enthusiasts and suit all abilities, affording the opportunity to holiday in a picturesque destination and combine it with their favourite hobby.

Other celebrities to endorse the exquisite courses on the Costa del Sol include English golfer turned on-air analyst Nick Faldo, and retired American golfer Arnold Palmer, nicknamed “The King”, due to his legendary golfing career and winning many events including the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour.

But these landscaped courses are far from just golfing destinations, as many of them offer superb amenities such as high-end shops, fine dining, spa facilities and access to nearby five-star resorts.  With many being just short walks away from beautiful seaside towns and stunning beaches and virtually guaranteed perfect weather, what more could a golfer want?

Aside from the fabulous amenities and activities that these locations have to offer, many also have their very own luxury residences right there on the golf course. These frontline golf properties have become somewhat of an investment opportunity of the years for budding entrepreneurs as well as individuals looking to invest overseas.  They are often rented out as world-class holiday destinations and many of these private residences also come with membership to the golf clubs to which they are affiliated, making them the perfect place to have a holiday home at the same time as being a great investment in prime real estate Marbella. If you fancy teeing off in Marbella, there are currently plenty of luxury golf properties for sale on the Costa del Sol at great value prices.

It’s just a matter of knowing where to look.
